Project Glidepath Windows Vista Bridge Package now available!

Today we're releasing a new Project code-named "Glidepath" package that enables you to take advantage of the new Task and Common file dialogs unique to Windows Vista. There is a 5-minute screencast you can watch to see a demo of the Vista Bridge package in-action.

If you already have Project Glidepath installed, you can get the Windows Vista Bridge package simply by updating your local repository by right clicking on the _ProjectGlidepath project, selecting Update and then click on Synchronize Repository via RSS button.

If you don't have Project Glidepath installed just go to www.projectglidepath.net, download the installer and follow the directions which will include synchronizing your local repository from the master which will get you all the Project Glidepath guidance and code including the Windows Vista Bridge package.

Windows Vista contains numerous enhancements that give developers opportunities to deliver an easier-to-use and more optimized User Experience. Some of the new features, however, have only a complex unmanaged interface.

Inside the Windows SDK there is a library called the Windows Vista Bridge that exposes some of these new features for .NET developers but it's not easy to find and, like the unmanaged code, contains a complex API.

The Project Glidepath Windows Vista Bridge package delivers information on the Vista Bridge library and an automated system that actually writes the code to make the calls into the library to deliver 3 kinds of Task Dialogs and the new Vista-only Common File Open and Common File SaveAs dialogs.

The Vista Bridge package works with both Windows Forms and Windows Presentation Foundation and is offered in versions which work with either C# or VB.NET.

UPDATE: We have begun evaluating applications and there are still more opportunites to submit your application and get a Zune so keeps those submissions flowing in!

Greetings from the Microsoft Project code-name "Glidepath" team!

We have updated the Project Glidepath site (www.projectglidepath.net) to feature the Windows Vista Spotlight, a list of MicroISV applications that run with the Windows Vista operating system.

If you are a MicroISV and have an application that successfully installs, runs and uninstalls on Windows Vista please go to the site, click on the link on the right and submit your application for consideration in the Spotlight. When your application passes our basic functionality tests we will put you in the spotlight and blog about your success!

And...If you are one of the first 30 MicroISVs to submit and pass our testing we will send you a Zune! (see site for full rules and submission guidelines).

.Net 3.0/Windows SDK/VS WPF/WCF additions links updated

Since the release of Windows Vista to RTM and the release of the .NET 3.0 Novemver 2006 CTP the links for the downloads which work with Project Glidepath have changed.

The links on the main download page have been updated.

Windows Presentation Foundation packages added - Sync your repository!

We've just added C# and VB.Net versions of the UX with WPF packages.

Please open your Project Glidepath-based solution, right click on _ProjectGlidepath, select Update... then click on Synchronize Repository via RSS and these two new packages will be downloaded into your local repository.

Project Glidepath 2.0 is now available!

After 3 months of experience with the Project Glidepath Technical Preview, we have now released Project Glidepath 2.0!

It contains many additional features and facilities including multiple factories and better support for VB.Net along with C#.

In an update to the site the pointer to the latest version (1.9) was accidentally replaced by a pointer to version 1.8.

This has now been fixed.

Upgrading from old versions to version 1.9

To upgrade to the latest version of Project Glidepath:

1. Uninstall Project Glidepath Software Factory

2. Uninstall Project Glidepath Guidance Package

3. Run the new ProjectGlidepathSetup.msi

4. Update the factory from the RSS feed as per the instructions given at the end of the installation process.

Project Glidepath 1.9 Now Available for download

We have posted the recently promised version 1.9 update for Project Glidepath.

The changes in this edition are:

1. There are now only 2 installers not three. The ProjectGlidepathSetup.msi now installs both the Project Glidepath Guidance Package as well as the Project Glidepath Software Factory.

2. All the content is now stored in the location where you install Project Glidepath. Previously there was a hard-wired requirement for a c:\glidepath directory.

3. The often requested option to use an alternate instance of SQL Server 2005 has been implemented. During the execution of ProjectGlidepathSetup.msi you are now given an option to edit the connection string. If you, for example, have an instance of full SQL Server 2005 installed named "xxx" you would both change the ".\SQLExpress" name to "xxx" at the beginning of the connection string and remove the "User Instance=True" at the end of the connection string (full SQL Server 2005 does not support this option).
